The situation that I am discussing about today will focus on the Housekeeping Department in hotels. As we all know, the housekeeping department is operated on a shift basis where the supervisor will plan out rosters for the housekeepers. On one occasion, my supervisor approached me with a plan that involves allocating me with extra shifts which I do not have to turn up. The money from the extra shifts which I did not work will be split with my supervisor and myself.
Thus, the stakeholders involved in this situation would be my supervisor and myself.
The ethical principle at stake would be the honesty and integrity of all the stakeholders involved. By going ahead with the plan, my supervisor and I will be committing fraud and deception against our hotel through the misuse of the roster system in order to gain monetary benefits.
The possible consequences if I were to go ahead with the plan my supervisor conceived would be the chance of us getting caught by an auditor which may lead to termination or if things escalate, the hotel might bring up the legal aspect of the fraud. However, if I were to turn down my supervisor’s offer, he might approach other housekeepers with the same proposal in which he will continue to do so until someone gets caught.
The most ethical course of action in this case would be for me to reject partaking in my supervisor’s plan to abuse the roster system. Additionally, I should raise this issue up to the housekeeping manager in order to prevent this incident from happening again.
Good job Ivan. i believe the decision that you had made was hard because you are reporting your supervisor to the management team. What you did is right as continuing to allow this kind of behavior would get you in trouble as the supervisor is using your name to get more money for himself. This would list you as a criminal if he gets caught and it will ruin your future when you did nothing wrong at all.

Hi Ivan,
Even though reporting this matter was not easy and could result in your supervisor despising you, but I believe that raising this issue to the higher management was right. If you had allowed such behaviour to go on, this will encourage your supervisor to approach other room attendants with the same proposal. Additionally, if you had not done what was right, this would have resulted in your termination and could possibly be charge for fraud which will affect your future.

Hi Ivan,
I commend your honesty and strong will to not succumb to the temptation offered by your supervisor. What you did was definitely correct and yes, you should whistleblow your supervisor to ensure he does not abuse his position anymore. Even if your supervisor finds out that you were the one who called him out, nothing should happen to you as it was the right thing to do. I hope you keep up your great ethics!
Regards,
Brandon
